A Temporary Farewell to Brooks Museum’s Vide-O-belisk

One of the most photographed—and shared on social media—works at the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is Nam June Paik’s Vide-O-belisk. This sculpture comprises vintage televisions, neon signs, and videos featuring works from the museum’s permanent collection, Egyptian iconography, and Elvis.

2015 at Brooks Museum: Year in Review

You could call 2015 a year of changes for the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Several cosmetic changes happened in anticipation of the centennial celebration in 2016, but the museum also has new leadership. Our new executive director, Dr. Emily Ballew Neff, was announced in April and is leading the museum in providing "dynamic and revelatory experiences for its visitors through great works of art from all over the world.”

DAT gifts item belonging to Memphis' first mayor to Brooks Museum

Blog written by Dr. Stanton Thomas, Curator of European & Decorative Art This impressive pitcher—one of the Decorative Arts Trust ’s most recent gifts to the Brooks Museum—belonged to Marcus Brutus Winchester, first mayor of Memphis (1796-1856). Winchester was Memphis’ mayor from 1827 until 1829.
