Join us for our twelfth art history lecture taught by Professor Rebecca Howard.

Lesson description: What happens to the long-standing goal of western painting when photography finally allows for an immediate capturing of the visible world? This lecture will consider artworks that respond to the ills of modern society and the invention of photography in the movements of Realism and Impressionism. As we will see, Impressionism opens the floodgates for numerous other modern art movements.

Lectures will be taught in the education studio at the Brooks Museum of Art. Limited seating available with tickets for $20 or free for our Brooks Docents. More information on becoming a docent is available here.
