Continuing Education with Brooks Museum Docents
We love our docents and education team here at the Brooks Museum. Even while the museum has been closed, our docents have been hard at work continuing to learn about the museum’s permanent collection.
Recently, our docents gathered for a presentation on Sofonisba Anguissola and Georgia O’Keeffe, two important women artists whose works hang in our permanent collection.

Brooks docent Ainslie Todd presented her research on Sofonisba Anguissola, a talented Renaissance portrait artist who painted for the Spanish Court and worked closely with Michelangelo. Anguissola’s portraits - two of which hang in our permanent collection - set her apart as an artist in the Renaissance, both for her talent and her brazenness in pursuing portraiture, a subject matter usually reserved for male artists.

Brooks tour coordinator Olivia Miles presented her research on the life and art of Georgia O’Keeffe, whose 1939 painting 'Waterfall - No. 1 - Iao Valley - Maui’ is a favorite in the Brooks Museum permanent collection.
Our dedicated docents never stop learning about the collection here at the Brooks. They know the collection better than anyone and they still work continuously to learn new ways of presenting the collection to museum visitors.
Docent led tours (groups of 10 or more) may be scheduled for anyone who is interested in learning more about art, the Brooks Museum, our collections, and our exhibitions.
